And my belief in either of you ended when I reached the age of reason. Santa and the Easter bunny vanished around that time too, but I kept the gifts and chocolate anyway.

They poster has a good point, but it should be remember that Jesus *let* himself be nailed to a cross, and the nails didn't work.
hereticalmuse - September 21, 2010, 10:24 am
Technically, the tag should be "norse paganism". Still bad-ass though.

*giggle* er, does this mean that klingons respect Jesus like the vikings do =D (ps there are messiah prophecies in most religions) the Fish'ies just think its a different one 4 each religion . THAT IS ALL

hey folks, Santa is really ODIN, do the math. The whole Odin giving gift things was to give the mordics a holiday in the dead of winter. Vikings respected Jesus because he faought back from the dead, and the Romans sent a lot legions to stop him.

the opposite of a religious fanatic is Hitler. An athiest who believed Jews were a less evolved version of normal humans. He used genocide to weed out the "unevolved". With or without religion, there will always be murder justified by a belief.

Atheists are in such a rush to prove everyone else wrong...but can't so! So instead they draw cartoons showing religious people to be nuts. Not that there aren't a fair share of wingnuts in ALL the camps from atheists to Christians!

Actually, if I'm not mistaken, it was all just given to humankind according to most of the religions? I find it truly amazing that so many supreme beings find humans to be the most important being in the universe... Very convenient.
Rick69 - January 25, 2012, 2:40 pm
Aye, G.O.D. doesn't seem to be a very nice guy when you look too deep ... sadly too many religions follow this some G.O.D. under different names & proceed to fight over which one's better... & yet somehow our race conquered most of Earth + its animals ...

CloudchaserS - January 24, 2012, 9:32 pm
Then when someone tries to counter their argument using logic and reason to say they're interpreting it wrong, it's "false teaching" or they ignore it and continue to insist they're right
CloudchaserS - January 24, 2012, 9:31 pm
The problem isn't the book, it's the believers who act like their personal interpretation of it is the only right one and their beating others over the head with it.

MrRandom - January 3, 2010, 3:39 am
Last time I was there, I went to this cult movie store. Can't recall the name, but me and my brother picked up a film by the name of Ricky-O that is banned in the US for violence.
Mooooooooooooooooooo - January 3, 2010, 3:39 am

Sean - January 3, 2010, 3:38 am
Gotta go. Good night you guys you. But carry on as I'm already gone (looking at porn on another site by now).
Bartimaeus - January 3, 2010, 3:38 am
@Sean: Yeah, I'll try some of his other stuff. It was the whole Copperfield angle that drew me to the story, and I aught to give the guy a fair shake.

Sean - January 3, 2010, 3:32 am
Read some other short stories of his. "The Tomb" is a bit of an aquired taste. It takes longer to get going than a lot of his other ones.
MrRandom - January 3, 2010, 3:31 am
I always have trouble finding Lovecraft. Not big in cow town apparently. Though I keep trying to find a copy of 'The Great God Pan' which both Lovecraft and King were both quoted as one of their biggest influences and most terrifying story they've read.
Bartimaeus - January 3, 2010, 3:31 am
I have a friend that swears by Lovecraft. I read one of his short stories, "In the Tomb of the Pharoes." Didn't think much of it, but I'll probably pick him up again.
Mooooooooooooooooooo - January 3, 2010, 3:31 am
I don't go in for older horror Sean.....But HG Wells ....let me just say, I'd give his corpse a reach around for an unpublished novel.

There's nothing wrong with being gay ... just don't read Twilight ... that's just gay.
Mooooooooooooooooooo - January 3, 2010, 3:29 am
Stranger in a strange land is epic....but have you read "to sail beyond the sunset" or "Friday"?.....god I love SF.
Bartimaeus - January 3, 2010, 3:28 am
God, I gotta get faster with these comments. I'm getting jumped all over the place.
Sean - January 3, 2010, 3:27 am
How about H.P. Lovecraft? Read most of his stuff. Solid horror.
Mooooooooooooooooooo - January 3, 2010, 3:27 am
King has gone downhill IMO....Barker is still the master....if he ever publishes anything......not that I'm complaining Clive...please don't hurt me.
Bartimaeus - January 3, 2010, 3:27 am
@Moo+: Of course, water brother, Heinland's the man...and the reason I occasionally use the word grock. I haven't read him as extensively as I'd like, but I've read the really well-known stuff...like Stranger and Starship Troopers.
MrRandom - January 3, 2010, 3:27 am
Friend of mine read Twilight. We still think he's gay, and most of us decided to get him the twilight blankets they sold at the grocery store we work in, as a joke.
MrRandom - January 3, 2010, 3:26 am
I've still got to pick up Stephen Kings new book, Under the Dome too.
Sean - January 3, 2010, 3:26 am
Oh yeah, The Vampire Chronicles ... wish my wife would read them. At the age of 4* she just read all of the *gasp* Twilight thingies. I figure/fear she'll be cruisin' the local high schools soon.
Mooooooooooooooooooo - January 3, 2010, 3:25 am
or spider Robinson?...right now I'm on a Poul Anderson bender....and this new (er) guy Scott Lynch.
Bartimaeus - January 3, 2010, 3:24 am
Oh, about your earlier question, if you're looking for a tragic series (the epic sort of thing) William Gibson's Sprawl Trilogy is excellent.
MrRandom - January 3, 2010, 3:23 am
Dark Tower is everything. Gotta love a horror/western/sci fi/fantasy/drama/romace/action book. And when I mean epic, I mean giant wars, multiple books, whole scale slaughter, all that fun stuff.
Mooooooooooooooooooo - January 3, 2010, 3:23 am
never been a big Bradbury fan....don't know why....I have 34 Asimov first editions and 112 total hard covers....Card is the shit....but have you read any Heinlein?
Bartimaeus - January 3, 2010, 3:22 am
Ah, Epics...like the Lord of the Rings trilogy or...Vampire Chronicles? I've read a few of those. Epics...The Dark Tower Series is fantasy I think. Science-y fantasy, but fantasy.
MrRandom - January 3, 2010, 3:18 am
Talking animals tend to count. Though the ones I read have less talking animals, more sweeping epic plots going over 8 or more books, along with lots of stabby stabby.
Sean - January 3, 2010, 3:18 am
Poe is horror, and I mean that in the nicest possible way.
Sean - January 3, 2010, 3:17 am
And even though it was written back in 89, I think, it's not at all dated.
Bartimaeus - January 3, 2010, 3:16 am
That's great. I should probably read more fantasy than I have. lol More than Harry Potter and Johnathan Stroud, anyway. Poe counts, right? Talking ravens...
MrRandom - January 3, 2010, 3:15 am
I only know of it from a concept album based off the first one. Though the creature in it sounds pretty freakin terrifying as far as books go.
Sean - January 3, 2010, 3:13 am
Sorry Mr.R, was working on my comment while you were posting yours -- wanted to make sure it was a trilogy of sorts.
Sean - January 3, 2010, 3:12 am
I recommend Hyperion by Dan Simmons. First of a trilogy. So if you like it, there's more.
MrRandom - January 3, 2010, 3:04 am
I'll probably grab a few after I finish off the Drizzt series, and Jon Stewarts comedy book. Still got plenty of time before the next Wheel of Time book. Gotta find Hyperion still.
Bartimaeus - January 3, 2010, 3:03 am
too* Let's see...who else. Asimov is a good standard. His short stories are magnificent...same goes for Bradbury, the only man who get away with making a sequel to the House of Usher. lol
Bartimaeus - January 3, 2010, 3:00 am
Orson Wells is great to. That's where I got the Fourth dimension stuff from, "The Time Machine."
Bartimaeus - January 3, 2010, 2:58 am
questions be. @Random: Heinland is one of my favorites. Another, more contemporary, author I like is Orson Scott Card. His novel, Ender's Game, was one of the first I ever read as a child...and I STILL find myself going back to it from time to time.
Bartimaeus - January 3, 2010, 2:55 am

Thank you, sir, I'm glad you appreciate the sentiment. Aggressive atheism could be intellectually bankrupting, if it becomes too widespread. The assumption that there is nothing should not become the answer to life's great question. That's stagnation.

Bartimaeus - November 22, 2009, 3:27 am
No, religion is all a part of the human experience. We have a desire to make sense of our place in the cosmos. Most would like to think that they exist as more than just an organism, a random mass of atoms. And, if you ask me, there's nothing wrong with

@ Zed The name "Jesus" is an Anglicization of the Greek Ίησους (Iēsous), itself a Hellenization of the Hebrew יהושע (Yehoshua) or Hebrew-Aramaic ישוע (Yeshua), meaning "YHWH rescues". "Christ" is a title derived from the Greek Χριστό

manicbranic - October 15, 2009, 1:13 pm
Its time to do away with all forms of faith and spirituality. We have better alternatives both for understanding the universe and for forming social bonds i.e., science and beer respectively.
Bah - October 9, 2009, 3:00 am
Sadly, I've yet to meet an atheist who's thought process follows the left hand flow chart. On the other hand, most religious people modify their beliefs based on what facts they can establish. There's just a very loud, obnoxious minority.
knowitall - October 2, 2009, 10:54 am
to think that the universe so beautiful and intricate just spontaneously appeared is the premise of both science and religion. science says it was spontaneous combustion, and religious says it was the word of God. I say why not both?
knowital - October 2, 2009, 10:51 am
there's more tangible evidence for God's existence, than there is for what caused the big bang. the big bang is a scientific cop out, in just the same way that faith is a religious cop out.

Haarakkon - June 15, 2009, 7:13 pm
Absolutely, Jmac. I'm guessing that those of a "scientific" bent have trouble with the concept of "theory", which blinds them to the fundamental issues of faith inherent in their positions. Now, three quarks as penance and come back next week my child.
Jmac0585 - June 15, 2009, 10:44 am
No one can prove either. It takes as much "faith" to believe in evolution as it does to believe in God. No one amongst us was there to see the beginning of either.
Cheeseman - June 10, 2009, 7:48 am
you mustn't understand the words your using. You can PROVE that science is FACT by TESTING the EVIDENCE. Christianity tells you not to test, so how can you even prove that religion is true?
Haarakkon - May 28, 2009, 1:50 am
Hate to trash anyone's sacred cows, but when you're believing in the existence of something you can not prove exists, it sure sounds like a religion to me.
Haarakkon - May 28, 2009, 1:47 am
I bow down at the great altar of scientific faith and believe that subatomic particles exist, though I can neither prove nor disprove this "theory". The high priesthood of scientists have told me so, therefore it must be. Don't question, just accept it.
mrawesomo - May 27, 2009, 3:16 am
Faith just means believing in something you are unsure about and refuse to look for new evidence on. Science means thinking you can prove something with something unproven.
Random Geek - March 13, 2009, 1:18 pm
Both started for the same reason: to explain the Universe. In fact; it was a scientist and ordained priest the first created the Big Bang theory, later proven by Hubble. Please excuse spelling.
